How We Review

Every comparison on FixList follows the same research process. Here is how we evaluate providers.

Research process

For each provider, we get test quotes using a standardised profile (sole trader, no claims, England-based). We review policy documents for cover limits, exclusions, and excess. We check customer reviews on Trustpilot, Feefo, and Google. We speak to business owners who have used the provider and made claims.

Rating criteria

We rate providers on four factors, equally weighted: price (value for money relative to cover), cover quality (what is included and excluded), claims reputation (how claims are handled based on reviews and direct feedback), and ease of use (quote process, policy documents, customer service).

Top pick selection

The "top pick" badge goes to the provider we would recommend to most people in that trade. It is not the cheapest or the most comprehensive but the best overall balance of all four criteria. Different readers may have different needs, which is why we provide the full comparison rather than just a single recommendation.

Updates

We review and update each comparison quarterly. Prices, cover terms, and provider reputations change, and we update our ratings accordingly. The "last updated" date on each page reflects the most recent review.

Affiliate disclosure

Some links on FixList are affiliate links. If you click through and purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This does not influence our ratings. We include non-affiliate providers when they deserve to be in the comparison.
